Bio

 

Born in Portugal, Eva Braga Simões began her musical studies at the age of 6 at the Calouste Gulbenkian Conservatory of Music where she studied piano and flute. At 15 years old she started her singing training and today holds a degree in Singing from the University of Aveiro, having been awarded a merit scholarship.

Eva has specialised in early and contemporary music, having performed as a soloist with Paul Hillier, Simon Carrington, James Wood, Kaspars Putniņš, Peter Rundel, Graham O’Reilly, Peter Philips, Nils Schweckendiek, Léo Warinski, Sofi Jeannin, Rainer Zipperling, Andrew Parrott, Krista Audere, Laurence Cummings, Arianna Savall, Steve Reich, among many others.

Eva Braga Simões works regularly with vocal ensembles across Europe and in the list of her many collaborations are Ars Nova Copenhagen, Theatre of Voices, Ensemble Psallentes (Belgium), Arianna Ensemble (Spain), Chamber Choir Ireland, Ludovice Ensemble and Drumming GP (Portugal).  Eva is a founder of Quarto Tom Ensemble, Casa da Música Choir and also of the ensemble Cupertinos with whom  has won the first award with the inclusion in the “Bestenliste” of “deutscher Schallplattenkritik” and was distinguished at the Gramophone Classical Music Awards 2019, winning in the category of “Ancient Music”. Was also a finalist in the 2020 and 2023 Edition of the PLAY – Portuguese Music Awards and have won in the Best Classical/Classical Music Album category in the 2021 edition! In 2023 was nominated for a second  Gramophone Award for Best Early Music Album.

In 2026 Eva is booked to work with four different european record labels and will make her stage debut with Barbara Hannigan!
